At the Student Conservation Association, our mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of the environment and communities by engaging young people through hands-on service projects. We seek to expand career pathways for all youth and young adults by eliminating barriers to participation in conservation.
Each year, our Virtual Conservation Career Fair expands these efforts as a continuum of accessible support for members and alums to meet with employers and educational organizations, participate in professional development sessions, network with others passionate about conservation, and so much more.

Our 2026 Virtual Conservation Career Fair kicks off at 12 PM ET with our exciting keynote session, followed by booths opening and engaging sessions being available throughout the day to explore and attend at your own pace. Please continue to check back as additional details are confirmed!

Conservation careers are built on more than technical expertise, they are shaped by commitment, adaptability, lived experience, and a clear sense of purpose. Yet these qualities often go under-described in resumes, interviews, and professional conversations. This session helps participants bridge that gap by teaching how to transform raw experience into a compelling conservation narrative, while introducing a strengths-based approach to career development rooted in the idea that your unique motivations, background, and values are as essential to employers as your field skills.
Participants will explore how to articulate their contributions through a storytelling lens, using real examples that often go overlooked on traditional resumes. We will discuss how to distill personal experiences into concise narrative elements “context, challenge, action, and impact” and how these can be adapted across different formats: resumes, cover letters, informational interviews, graduate school statements, and networking conversations.
The session also highlights ways to strengthen personal branding in the conservation space, including identifying thematic through-lines such as youth engagement, restoration ecology, sustainable agriculture, or climate resilience. A strengths-mapping worksheet will be provided for participants to complete on their own to identify “superpowers” the natural abilities, soft skills, and leadership traits that may not feel obvious but are often the qualities that set them apart. The emphasis throughout is on clarity, confidence, and translating lived experience into meaningful professional value.
